Caleb and Calder Sloan’s Awesome Foundation returns to the 2019 Promax Conference on Thursday, June 6, to stuff backpacks for homeless kids in Los Angeles.
In its third year, the House of Awesome will host conference attendees as they pack backpacks full of school supplies and write inspirational notes for kids accompanied by a deejay spinning tunes in the background. The activation, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Platinum Foyer, is in partnership with Promax, the Sydney Paige Foundation and School on Wheels.
Attendees also can bid on raffle and silent auction items, including airline trips on JetBlue and Spirit Airlines; an overnight stay at Los Angeles’ Garland Hotel with Sunday brunch for two at the Intercontinental Hotel from Teneo Hospitality Group; a VIP Impractical Jokers tour and merch from truTV; a beach cruiser bike from Regions Bank; tickets to Universal Studios Hollywood Theme Park from NBCUniversal; gourmet wines donated by Morgan Stanley; a Honeydoo Intimates gift basket; hotel stays from Accor Hotels and Resorts; and a basket of goodies from Cartoon Network.
“Who wouldn’t want to bring their hands and their heart for just 30 minutes to pay it forward for a great cause and have a party with a purpose while doing it? Plus, we’ve lined up some pretty amazing auction items and prizes to take this year’s ‘House of Awesome’ to the next level,” said Chris Sloan in a statement. Sloan is a longtime Promax board member and co-owner/president of 2C Creative. Sloan co-founded Caleb and Calder Sloan’s Awesome Foundation with his wife Carla to honor their late son, Calder “Mr. Awesome” Sloan, who passed away five years ago when he was just seven years old.
“My family and I have been so heartened by the support of Promax and the membership community, all the generous donors and partners who have stepped up to contribute to the cause early, allowing us to fund the backpacks and supplies. We couldn’t have done this without them.”
With more than $70,000 already raised, the House of Awesome activation and support of the Sydney Paige and School on Wheels efforts are being made possible through advance donations from Caleb and Calder Sloan’s Awesome Foundation, 2C Creative, A+E Networks, Fox, Ion, Viacom, FX Networks, Amazon Prime Video, Up TV, NBC Universal, Debmar-Mercury, Cartoon Network, WarnerMedia, Discovery Networks and Man Made Music, as well as numerous individual donors. The inaugural Caleb and Calder Sloan’s House of Awesome, in conjunction with Hashtag Lunchbag, purchased and packed lunches for 2,500 of LA’s homeless in 2017, and its second activation was a joint effort with Operation Backpack last year to purchase and stuff thousands of school supply kits for homeless kids in New York.
With such strong initial support, the 3rd Annual Caleb & Calder Sloan’s House of Awesome will help 2,500 homeless kids start the school year off confident, prepared and ready to succeed.
