PromaxBDA and Caleb and Calder Sloan’s Awesome Foundation invite attendees to this year’s conference in New York City to come stuff pencil packs and do some social good all while having fun on Thursday, June 14 at the Midtown Hilton.

Volunteers will assemble packs full of school supplies for homeless school children, giving these kids something to be excited and proud about before they start their new school year. The activation, known as Operation Backpack, is taking place in partnership with Volunteers of America — Greater New York. As of 2016, 1.5 million kids in New York City schools — or more than half — were considered financially disadvantaged and in need of support, according to VoA.

To help remedy this, the foundation is matching cash contributions up to $20,000 and already has secured additional donations from media organizations such as 2C Creative, A+E Networks, Debmar-Mercury, Discovery and Science, FX Networks, Ion, Loyalkaspar, Man Made Music, NBCUniversal and Viacom.

“I’m pleased to report that we have already generated $50,000 in donations that will purchase and fill more than 5,000 pencil packs for disadvantaged children in New York,” said 2C Creative’s Chris Sloan, co-founder of Caleb & Calder Sloan’s Awesome Foundation and a member of PromaxBDA’s board of directors.

Additional cash donations to Operation Backpack can be made through Crowdrise before, during and after the event.
